Performance of Random Contention PRMA: A Protocol for Fixed Wireless Access
This paper introduces a packet reservation multiple access (PRMA) with random contention for fixed wireless access communications. The performance of PRMA scheme with random contention is compared with the performances of traditional PRMA under permission contention scheme. The proposed scheme is a simpler contention mechanism that does not depend on a pre-determined permission probability as P...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of a Packet Reservation Media Access (PRMA) Scheme for Broadband Fixed Wireless Access
This paper introduces a packet reservation based MAC layer for broadband fixed wireless access communications. The performance of a reservation based MAC scheme is compared with the performances of Pure-ALOHA and Slotted-ALOHA MAC schemes. A simulation using OPNET Modeler is performed to compare the performance of these MAC schemes in terms of channel throughput and average packet delay.
متن کاملPerformance of PRMA: A Packet Voice Protocol for Cellular Systems
Future microcellular systems will require distributed network control. A packet-switched network is particularly suitable for this requirement. Moreover, packet switching naturally accommodates speech activity detection to improve Vation-ALOHA protocol for packet speech transmission from wireless terminals to a base station. Because PRMA is a statistical multiplexer, the channel becomes congest...
متن کاملPerformance evaluation of a joint CDMA/NC-PRMA protocol for wireless multimedia communications
A joint code division multiple access and noncollision packet reservation multiple access (CDMA/NC-PRMA) technique is proposed and investigated as an uplink protocol for the third-generation (3G) mobile systems. Being the underlying time division multiple access (TDMA) architecture of the CDMA transmissions, NC-PRMA enables the base station (BS) to have a centralized control over the slot alloc...
متن کاملMarkov analysis of the PRMA protocol for local wireless networks
PRMA (packet reservation multiple access) is a reservation-ALOHA access protocol specifically designed for wireless microcellular networks that handle both real-time and non-real-time traffic. We present a thorough analysis of this protocol, considering real-time traffic only, based on a suitable Markov model. The size of the model is such that it can be directly used for an exact quantitative ...
